What a licensing board is, and what it publishes
What a professional regulatory board is, who creates it, what it publishes about the people it regulates, and how discipline becomes a public document.

A professional board sits between a profession and the public. It registers practitioners, sets conditions for staying registered, and publishes the outcome when it disciplines someone. Its records are one of the few places where an ordinary reader can check a professional claim without asking anyone for permission.
Created by whom, and why that matters
Maine’s Board of Overseers of the Bar states on its own site that it was created by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court in 1978 and operates as an independent agency under the jurisdiction of that Court. A body created by a court is not a club its members joined; that single fact explains why its decisions are published and why its hearing schedule is open.
What is published, and what is not
The Board publishes an attorney directory, disciplinary decisions with respondent names, a hearing schedule, roster totals and certificates of good standing. It publishes no statement of what it cannot do. This folio describes what is there and marks the silence rather than guessing at it.

What a professional licensing board is, and who creates it
A licensing board is not a trade association. It is created by a public authority, and Maine's bar board was created by the Supreme Judicial Court in 1978.

How professional discipline becomes a public document
A disciplinary order against a Maine lawyer is published with its date, the respondent's name and a single justice named as issuer. The hearing list is public too; what the Board cannot do, its site nowhere states.
